Cutting the Cord

We finally did it - we cut the cord.  The cable cord that is.

Due to budgeting reasons, we decided just before Christmas to cut our cable services off.  We had a gazillion channels and a DVR and nothing to watch.  We already subscribed to a streaming service and knew of others available so we did it.

We discovered PlayOn while searching for TV alternatives.  PlayOn is a very cool Internet TV service.  If you have an Internet connection, wireless services and a streaming device (PlayStation 3, Wii, XBox 360, or Roku), then this is the service for you.

The simple version is that you access PlayOn from your streaming device.  You choose from over 55 channels that are available.  If the TV show is available online, you can watch it on your TV.

Every show that we typically watch is available on this service and very easy to use through our Wii.

The cost is a huge savings over cable as well.  You pay a one time fee of $90 and you have it forever.  They also have sale going on right now and you can get it for about half of that!  You can also pay a little extra and get the "DVR" option as well so you can record stuff you want to watch and have it available long after it goes off the Internet channels.

So, if you are considering cutting the cord at your house I would suggest you try out PlayOn for streaming TV.
