I can’t believe it’s already February. It seems like we were just preparing for Christmas and here we are a month into the new year. I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions but I did this year. I had a few areas I wanted to make improvements in my life and I figured the new year was the best time to get started. So, after a month, how am I doing?
- Keep up the house better – My house is not “dirty” but it is definitely “cluttered”. I’m not the best at getting everything picked up each night so walking through my house usually involves stepping over and around toys, shoes, and stuff in general. I’m also really bad about not always cleaning up the kitchen before we go to bed. By the time dinner is cooked and served and Ting is bathed in bed, I really just want to sit down and watch TV with hubby. I decided to start small, just the kitchen. Every night the dishes will be done before I sit down for TV time. I have to admit I’ve done a good job on this one. So well, in fact, that it drives me crazy to walk through the kitchen and see a dirty dish. Maybe I’ll tackled the rest of the house next year!
- One new meal a week – We have a “menu” on the refrigerator. It is basically a list of meals that I cook that we like. It makes planning the week’s meals a little easier. But as you can imagine, we get in a really boring meal cycle. I vowed to find and try one new meal a week. I’ve managed to do this twice so far. Both times can be easily described as an #epicfail! Got to spend some time on Pinterest and cook books and get this one on track
- Spend more time on my appearance – Maybe this is one I should have saved for after Bug arrives! I spend my time each morning making sure Ting has on a cute outfit, matching bow, and all that. When it comes to me, I just throw something on and go with it. It dawned on me that hubby didn’t marry some random woman who doesn’t care what she looks like. He married the me that put together matching outfits and made a point to look nice when I left the house. So, I decided to try to be that person again. So far, that has involved a new haircut and trying to remember to put some earrings on each morning. Honestly, I’m 29 weeks pregnant, I have one pair of ugly tennis shoes that are comfortable and I’m wearing the same black pants over and over again because they are comfortable. I think I’ll re-evaluate this one in a couple of months.
- Read my Bible through – I’ve been in church my entire life, been a born again Christian since I was 13, yet I’ve never read through the Bible. In fact, there are parts I have never read. I ordered a one-year Bible from our local Bible store that has daily readings broken down into easy to accomplish passages. I got started a week late and to be honest, have not been real great about it. By the time I get to my Bible reading time each night, I’m exhausted; or my head hurts; or my back hurts; or, or, or. None of these are good excuses to not read my Bible, but… I have however made it through 15 days of reading. The good part is that I read fairly fast so I can usually read two or three days worth when I sit down to do it. I may not get it all read in 2012, but I WILL get it all read.
What about you? Did you make any resolutions? I’d love to hear how you are doing!
